Yes, normally we say “Ready, Aim, Fire!”, but how many times have you tried to execute a plan before you really had a plan? You fired first.
I was in a meeting the other day where we were discussing why some follow-up work after a webinar had taken too long to execute. I asked if there had been a plan for this follow-up and the answer was, “No.” So, it was not too much of a surprise to me that things had not gone as well as they should.
Firing before you have gotten ready and done the proper aiming doesn’t work. You never hit the target that way, so why do we think we can solve a problem by taking some action before we have understood the problem or created a plan for the solution. Alway take the time to study the problem and devise a plan for solving it. Usually, that means writting it down.
Today things are pretty fast paced. We all need to execute quickly. To make sure we hit the target in this fast paced world, we need to learn to get ready quickly and aim fast, too.
